History
The Hotamışlıgil Lab, established in 1995 under the leadership of Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, is dedicated to study metabolism, to explore fundamental control mechanisms and lay the foundation for novel approaches to treat obesity and age-related pathologies to expand the health span of humans. Our mission has focused on generating new knowledge, training future scientific leaders, and transforming basic scientific discoveries into innovative treatments for common diseases. The lab has thrived, thanks to its dedicated students, assistants, and fellows, as well as outstanding collaborations and in the vibrant intellectual community of Harvard University. We have been fortunate to receive the support and awards from many government institutions, foundations, industry and individuals. Between 2014 and 2024, the Hotamışlıgil Lab operated as the Sabri Ülker Center for Nutrient, Genetic, and Metabolic Research through the generosity of the Ülker family for 10 years. During this period, we organized 4 Metabolism and Life Symposia, trained many scientists, and produced exciting discoveries.
As a lab, we continue to do our best to contribute to the intellectually rich environment of a leading School of Public Health within one of the world’s foremost research universities and benefit from our position at the epicenter of biotechnology, medical research, practice, learning and teaching, innovation and leadership in Boston, Massachusetts. We remain committed to excellence and discovery as we entered an extremely exciting new phase in our program with a fantastic group of scientists, collaborators and alliance partners to pursue translational path with the ultimate goal of positively impacting human health and generating solutions for the greatest threats to global human health.
